Cocoknits Method Sweater Workshop: Knit the Emma Sweater

Next Session Starting March 30, 2024! (5 sessions)

Registration for March Cohort open now

The price includes 10 hours of instruction and between-class support. Registering for this class, you agree to purchase your yarn from this shop. (Be sure to include your email and phone number during registration). Please confirm and commit to all of the sessions. There are no make-up sessions.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the Cocoknits Method for sweater construction designed by Julie Weisenberger, which offers a unique, comfortable fit for a wide range of body shapes and sizes. This method uses top-down knitting that incorporates increases at specific intervals to create truly three-dimensional shaping that doesn’t require seaming when you’re done. The neck, shoulders, and yoke are created together, so the shaping is softly sloped to hug the body in a flattering way.

You’ll knit one of three Emma sweater designs; options are two pullovers, and one cardigan.  For this first foray into learning the Cocoknits method, we offer two chunky yarn selections for this class (see Materials).  Once you’re comfortable with the method, you can explore many variations!

After you register for the workshop, you’ll receive an email with more details and a form to provide your yarn selection, yardage, and other materials you will need.  We’ll compile a kit with your yarn, your Cocoknits Sweater Workshop book (if you ordered it), and any other products and gifts in time for the class.  You will receive a one-time 10% discount on purchasing your sweater yarn.

We will meet for three weeks, then two or three weeks, and then three weeks later to show off your finished (or partially finished) sweater and celebrate all your successes!  Each session will include instruction, time for questions and support, and short videos where Julie explains the key techniques for that section, which we’ll then discuss in more detail.

We will use the Cocoknits Sweater Workshop book for our patterns, for the worksheet, and for other resources throughout the course.  If you don’t already have a copy, you may purchase it at the same time you purchase your yarn.

In registering for this workshop, you also agree to purchase your yarn and class materials from our shop. For the March 2024 cohort, registration closes on Mar 11th, 2024, to ensure we can order the materials and get them to you in time to begin the workshop on time.

Book Description

This book, Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, shares Julie Weisenberger’s system of tracking knitting progress in your own easy-to-follow customized worksheet. Unlike most traditional patterns that create flat shapes, the tailored style of construction in these patterns creates truly three-dimensional garments that impart a great fit upon completion.

All designs are worked from the neckline down, so once the neck and yoke area are established, the knitter can just cruise through generating the sweater and not worry about counting or losing track of their place in the pattern. Another advantage of knitting top-down is the ability to try on your garment as you work, to ensure the fit is right.

In addition to all-new patterns, Julie has dedicated a section of the book to an in-depth guide to choosing the right patterns for your figure type with considerations for colorwork, textured stitches, and hemlines all working in concert to create the right silhouette for you.
