Sew a Japanese Knot Bag
The knot bag is a cute and simple grab bag that also works great as a project bag! Requiring minimal sewing skills to complete, it's the perfect project to increase your sewing knowledge. In this class, we will sew one medium-sized bag (12.5"x17.5"). If you're a fiber artist, this bag should just be large enough to hold 500 grams of yarn or 5 average-sized skeins. The bag will be reversible/lined with two contrasting fabrics.
REQUIRED:
Please provide your email and phone number with your registration for essential class communication, as well as your fabric choice (read below).
What you will learn:
- Sewing fabric pieces together with a 1/4" seam allowance
- Utilizing straight pins to mark and hold your pieces together
- Pressing open seams and clipping outside and inside curves
- Edge Stitching with a specialized sewing machine foot
- Optional hand stitched finish
The fabric pieces will be cut and marked prior to class in order to save time.
Prerequisite:
- Experience with operating a sewing machine is strongly recommended. If you're not sure, the skills taught in Get to Know the Sewing Machine will get you where you need to be for this project.
Materials provided:
Your registration includes the price of materials and the pattern. All other equipment and notions will also be provided. If you require reading glasses, you will want to bring them.
- 1/2 yard of 45" Cotton fabric each in 2 contrasting colors
- Matching thread
- Straight pins

You have the choice of three fabric combinations for this project. When registering for the class, please leave a note on your order as to which fabric set you prefer: A, B, or C (see photos). This allows me to have your fabric prepared in time for class. The fabric provided is Nara Homespun by Sevenberry, a 100% cotton print in indigo shades made in Japan.
