4-Shaft Weaving Workshop with Erin
A Self-Paced Month of Learning and Making
Elevate your weaving with the possibilities provided by multiple shafts! With 4-shafts, you can create more complex weaving structures such as twill, herringbone, and more. If you've acquired a loom (or want to acquire a loom) and need to learn how to get started, this is for you.
This class is a self-paced, month-long experience with four scheduled group meetings for shared learning and progress check-ins. Outside of the meetings, you may work on your project in your own time within shop hours and with additional instruction, as needed.
REQUIRED:
Please provide your email and phone number with your registration for essential class communication.
What you will learn:
- Planning your project and reading a weaving draft
- How to warp using a warping board + dressing the loom
- How to weave on a 4-shaft table loom
- Finishing techniques
The project:
Anything small and not too complex is a great start. Ideas are: Hand towels, table runner, scarf, mug rugs (coasters), or place mats. It's advised to keep your warp no longer than 3 yards.
Prerequisite:
- Experience with rigid heddle weaving is preferred but not mandatory.
Materials needed:
We love when you use yarn purchased from our shop but for this class, it will not be mandatory. Weaving is a great way to use stash yarn! If you bring your own, it will need to be teacher approved to ensure that it will work for your project. If you purchase yarn from the shop, you will receive a one-time 10% class materials discount.
- Yarn necessary to complete your project (we will go over this in class)
- Small table loom (Schacht Quartet may be rented in the studio)
- Warping board (Schacht 4 1/2 yard board may be rented in the shop)
- Stick or boat shuttle with bobbins
- Scissors
- Scrap yarn or string
Key Class Details:
- Duration: 4 meetings, 8+ hours of instruction
- Looms may be provided or you may use your own, with approval by the teacher. If you purchase a loom from us, $15 of your class fee may be applied to this. The studio provides the Schacht Quartet and all accessories for those signed up to rent.
- A one-time 10% discount is available for yarn purchased for this class.
- An email will be sent before the class with important information, but you may, of course, contact us at any time with questions: info@araneacraftstudio.com
- Maximum 6 students per class; Minimum 2 students
